The summer is heating up! And it’s a good time to pack your bags, sock away some cash, grab your sunglasses and hit the road for a vacation. Here at SWM we are a hard working bunch trying to bring you the best in resources for a great quality of life. But while we work hard, we play even harder. Here is a small list of places we scoured on the internet that can help you find your pick for a great travel destination. Life is too short to not enjoy site-seeing and like they say, “All work and no play makes Jack and Jill a dull boy and girl”. So close your eyes, point to the screen and pick a guide and then fire up your GPS maps and happy travels!
First off, this is a small list of travel guides for destinations around the world. If you’re in a bind for places to go then look here to brainstorm up some ideas .
Fodor is a travel guide that was established to provide English language written guides. Its founder wanted to create inspiring fun guides written for European travelers and offers insight into local customs and culture such as tipping. It has, according to Wikipedia, over 440 guides and has been around since 1949.
Rick Steves is an American writer and traveler and author and has his travel series on PBS and public radio called Travel with Rick Steves. His travel guides encourages people to try the roads less traveled by and smaller villages. Rick Steves started work in the tourism business and wrote his first travel guides for use in the 1980’s.
Condé Nast Traveler provides travel news, resource guides, tips, photos and ideas for visiting and traveling.
Lonely Planet is a travel guide and book publisher aimed at back packers.
National Geographic is a magazine producer that produces articles on geography, exploration, cartography (maps) and gives useful information for travel.
Rand McNally Road Atlas is a resource with maps, navigation, road destinations and trip planning.
Your Guide to the National Parks is a full color book with complete guides to over 50 different National Parks and includes maps and hiking information.
