Self Esteem & Advice from my younger self
October 25, 2018
Set goals and achieve them, but be realistic—don’t set the bar so high that you set yourself up for failure.
Refrain from being too hard on yourself—criticizing yourself excessively.
Be authentic—allow yourself to be who you really are.
Affirm yourself regularly.
Be aware of your feelings and express them.
Don’t rely on others to validate you. This should be mostly internal.
Don’t be a people pleaser; be true to yourself.
Take responsibility for your own behavior, feelings, and life in general.
Don’t be a victim or one who blames others.
Stay away from critical or judgmental people as much as you can.
Reframe negative comments made to or about you in such a way as to be useful to you.
Make a list of your positive qualities or attributes as well as successes, and keep this list handy for quick reference. Add to the list over time.
Take care of yourself in all areas: physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, professionally.
Don’t give your power away. Run your own life.
State your needs and find ways to get them met.
Laugh at yourself but not in a destructive way.
