The WhatsApp service suffered from a temporary outage late Thursday evening as people reported getting a message the service was temporarily unavailable.
Hundreds of thousands use this mobile messaging app with built-in enabled-by-default encryption. This is an app owned by the company Facebook. A few also reported sign-in issues for a few hours.
This is a useful app for making sure that your messages between you and your friends stay between you and your friends. Its encryption does not prevent someone from screenshotting your conversation or data loss due to phone loss, theft or keyloggers. Always make sure your phone is close by and consider removing any old messages you have that you no longer need. Also consider using two-factor authentication and a secure pin code so if someone attempts to reset your phone number you have a barrier to prevent your account from being used or lost.
